Information on what certified Dutch translation means
A Dutch translation with a written assurance from a Dutch translator, which the translation provided, completely reflects the source information and has been done with the outmost accuracy for a certified Dutch translation. There are several ways to certify a Dutch translation. Certified Dutch translations required in court proceedings, need to be provided by a Dutch translator who is certified and/or registered with the specific court. In this case, the certified Dutch translator needs to provide a written statement with a pledge, in front of the court, clearly stating that the translations performed are complete and accurate in relation to the source information of his/her client. In some situations, the court may also demand a separate affidavit from the certified Dutch translator. Another type of certified Dutch translation is when the certified Dutch translator merely provides the translation on an official letter head, stating that the translator is fully responsible for the translation provided, and that it accurately reflects the source information. Such certificates are provided with the translated information. These certificates also bear an official golden or red seal, from the professional certified Dutch translator. Some certified translators also affix a unique official hologram to such certificates. For Dutch translations related to general naturalization and educational certificates, the apostilled type of certified Dutch translation is used. The Apostille is a validation with an assurance that the specific document is accepted in the foreign countries that have signed, The Hague Convention of 1961. According to this treaty, the public documents that are translated and apostilled are easily accepted in those countries that have entered into this international treaty. Because of this, public documents that are only valid locally can be conveniently translated into the local language of destination and may then be apostilled by the respective authorities. In different countries, there are diverse authorities that apostille these types of documents; the United States, for example, the office of the Secretary of State or the Deputy Secretary of that specific State, has the authority to provide such certifications while in the Netherlands, the District courts have the authority to provide apostilles. A Dutch translation can also be considered as certified, when attested to by a public notary. In these situations, the translator swears in front of the notary that the translations provided are accurate and complete in relation to the source information.
